2.Describtion:

It is a fungus belonging to the family Polyporus and the genus Poria. The mycelium is white fluffy, white when young and light brown when old. The aerial hyphae are short and upright, mostly criss crossing and densely penetrating the matrix. The sclerotia are composed of the outer membrane, inner membrane, polysaccharide granule formation layer, and polysaccharide granule accumulation layer. The sclerotia are the dormant and storage organs of Poria cocos. When the sclerotia develop to a certain stage, they swell and grow upwards, exposing the soil surface. The hyphae grow and expand on the surface of the sclerotia, and the top hyphae continuously grow outward, developing into fruiting bodies. The fruiting bodies vary in size and lie flat on the surface of the sclerotia or mycelium. They are initially white, later light brown, and the spores are transparent without encapsulation, with a smooth surface.

3.Main Function:

Poria cocos has the effects of removing water dampness, resolving phlegm and stopping cough, calming the mind and improving intelligence, strengthening the spleen and stomach. It can alleviate symptoms such as edema, difficulty urinating, coughing and phlegm accumulation, palpitations and forgetfulness, diarrhea, nocturnal emissions, and turbidity. Poria cocos is often combined with ginseng, yuanzhi, sour jujube kernels, etc., and used for symptoms such as restlessness, insomnia, and dreams; Combined with Codonopsis pilosula, Atractylodes macrocephala, etc., it can improve the symptoms of insufficient appetite and loose stools caused by spleen deficiency and excessive dampness. Modern research has shown that Poria cocos has liver protective, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antibacterial, anti-aging, and anticonvulsant effects.
