Chinaberry Fruit ,also known as "chuan lian zi" in Mandarin Chinese, refers to the dried ripe fruit of the Sichuan Chinaberry tree (Melia toosendan). In traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), chuan lian zi is used for its medicinal properties and has a long history of application dating back centuries.
In TCM, chuan lian zi is believed to possess bitter, cold properties and is associated with the liver and spleen meridians. It is primarily used for relieving pain and expelling parasites. The herb is often prescribed for conditions such as abdominal pain caused by roundworms or hookworms, bi syndrome (painful obstruction syndrome characterized by colicky pain), and amenorrhea due to cold dampness.
The active compounds in chuan lian zi include limonoids, such as toosendanin and meliatoosendanin, which are thought to contribute to its anthelmintic (anti-parasite) and analgesic effects. These substances can help to expel intestinal worms and relieve spasms and pain.
