SEED OF WILD JUJUBE, known scientifically as Ziziphus jujuba Mill. var. spinosa (Bunge) Hu ex H.F.Chow,
is the dried ripe seed of the Spiny Jujube plant, belonging to the Rhamnaceae family. It has been widely used in traditional Chinese medicine for its sedative and tranquilizing properties.
Scientific research has confirmed that Suanzaoren contains a variety of bioactive components, including flavonoids, triterpenoid saponins, polysaccharides, and more. These components contribute to its diverse pharmacological effects, such as antioxidation, anti-inflammation, and antidepressant activities. For instance, one study found that the flavonoids in Suanzaoren significantly enhanced antioxidant capacity and reduced oxidative stress levels in mice.
