The roots of Rheum officinale are used in traditional Chinese medicine.
They are considered as a kind of "cold" herbs, used as a laxative in patients with constipation,
sometimes accompanied by fever and even delirium.
It is thought that rhubarbs can improve poor circulation,
especially being helpful to remove bodily aggregates which result from poor circulation.
In Chinese traditional medicine,
R. officinale, in combination with a large variety of other herbs and modern medicine,
has been used for the treatment of hepatitis B, although the results were found to be inconclusive.

2.Location
Rheum Palmatum L. and R. tanguticum Marim. Ex. Balf. are called as Bei Da Huang which grows in Qinghai and Gansu provinces of China,
while R. officinale Baill is known as Nan Da Huang, produced mainly in Sichuan province of China.

Collected at the end of autumn or the following spring.
4.The actual smell and taste:
Fragrant smell, bitter and light astringent taste.

Yellowish-brown, asterion obviously, heavy with hard texture, oily.
6.Processing
Cut into cubes and dried, stir-baked or steamed with alcohol, carbonized or processed.
7.Property
Bitter, cold; large intestine, spleen, stomach, liver and heart meridians entered.
8.Actions
Remove accumulation with purgative, clear heat and purge fire,
cool blood and stop bleeding, remove toxicity, activate blood and dispel stasis,
clear heat and resolve dampness.
